Teacher's Guide

The Tilley Adventures in Reading Series is designed to complement a balanced approach to language learning. As such, Tilley Adventures in Reading offers opportunities for students to address the major components of literacy, which include reading, writing and working with words. Tilley Adventures in Reading uses simple creative stories as the foundation for the learning experience, and complements the text with exciting interactive activities related to the word choice, phonics and purpose of the text.

Tilley Adventures in Reading is intended to address a Grade 1 student at an Independent Reading Level. To this end, supports such as voice-overs to read or sound out words, and a customizable word wall are embedded to assist students working independently. However, not only can Tilley Adventures in Reading be used with individual students, but it can also be used with small groups sharing a computer terminal as a center in a classroom, with a whole class in a computer lab or with a television or multi media projector.

Tilley Adventures in Reading addresses many of the learning objectives in the Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario Curricula, as well as the State Standards and Core Objectives for California, Texas, Oregon and Arizona. Please refer to the accompanying information learning outcomes section for specific information about learning objective matches for each story.
